Guides / How to choose a free VPN (without hype)
Choosing a free VPN carefully
“Best free VPN” lists are often affiliate-driven. A better approach is a short checklist you can apply to any app — including 4U.
Checklist
- Official App Store / Google Play listing with a clear developer name
- Readable privacy policy that matches what the app requests
- Clear free limits (time, speed, or ads) instead of vague “unlimited forever” claims
- No pressure to sideload APKs or enter passwords on random websites
- Support channel and company contact that actually respond
Tradeoffs of free tiers
Free VPN apps usually fund themselves with ads, limited time, or upsells to Premium. That is normal. What matters is whether the limits and data practices are explained honestly.
4U offers a free timed session without mandatory signup, with Premium available if you need more. There is no 3-day trial push.
Claims to treat skeptically
Be wary of absolute promises: “100% anonymous,” “unblock everything,” “military-grade forever,” or “no logs” without a policy that defines what is stored temporarily for operations.
Where 4U fits
4U focuses on simple mobile VPN use: quick connect, free session without an account, and a Privacy Policy centered on minimization. Compare that to your needs, then decide.
This guide is not a ranking or warranty that 4U is the best VPN for every person or country.
